Orthokeratology

Wake up with clear vision , no surgery, no daytime contacts. Ortho-K lenses reshape your vision overnight, so you can go glasses-free all day.

What is orthokeratology?

Orthokeratology uses gas-permeable lenses that temporarily reshape the cornea overnight. You wear the lenses while sleeping, and remove them in the morning to enjoy clear vision throughout the day, no surgery or daytime eyewear required.

Because Ortho-K doesn’t involve permanent changes to your eyes, the effects are reversible. If you stop wearing the lenses, your cornea gradually returns to its original shape and your original prescription returns.

Ortho-K is especially helpful for people who are active, sensitive to contact lenses during the day, or want a non-surgical alternative to LASIK.

The top left section is the most blurry, while the bottom right section is the clearest. The street is lined with buildings on both sides, and there are cars and street lights visible. The sky is overcast, and the overall mood of the image is somewhat gloomy.

What visual problems can ortho-k correct?

Ortho-K is most commonly used to correct myopia (nearsightedness), helping patients see clearly at a distance without glasses or daytime lenses. In some cases, it can also help manage mild astigmatism and farsightedness.

For children with progressive myopia, Ortho-K can also be part of a long-term myopia management plan to help slow changes in vision over time.

Dr. Girardi will assess your needs and determine whether Ortho-K is a good fit based on your prescription, eye shape, and visual goals.

Am I a Suitable candidate for ortho-k?

Most patients with mild to moderate nearsightedness are good candidates for Ortho-K. It’s a great option for:

  • People who play sports or work in environments where glasses get in the way

  • Those who experience dryness or discomfort with daytime contacts

  • Patients who want to avoid or delay LASIK

  • Children or teens with progressive myopia

Dr. Girardi will evaluate your eyes and lifestyle to decide whether Ortho-K is a good match. The process is non-invasive and fully reversible, making it a low-risk way to improve vision without long-term commitment.
