Comprehensive Eye Exams

A comprehensive eye exam can catch problems early, update your prescription, and give you a clearer understanding of your eye health, all in one visit.

What Does a Comprehensive Eye Exam Include?

A full exam checks your vision, eye health, and how well your eyes are functioning together. Testing is tailored based on your age, health history, and any symptoms you’re experiencing.

Sharpness & Field of Vision

Visual acuity checks how clearly you’re seeing, usually with a standard eye chart.

Visual field testing looks for any blind spots or gaps in your side vision.

Retinoscopy helps estimate your prescription quickly and accurately.

How Often Should I Get a Comprehensive Eye Exam?

Most patients benefit from annual or biannual eye exams, depending on their age, health, and whether they wear corrective lenses.

  • The American Optometric Association recommends exams at 6 months old, age 3, before first grade, and every year or two after that for children.

  • For adults 18 to 60, exams are typically recommended every two years.

  • For adults 61 and older, yearly exams are the best way to stay on top of age-related changes.

Considering Contact Lenses?

Contact lens fittings aren’t usually included in a routine eye exam. If you’re thinking about trying contacts, just let the office know when you book, that way, we will make sure to set aside time to get it done.
